INTERN - ST JAMES PREP SCHOOL INTERN (GAP YEAR TEACHING ASSISTANT) FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/23

Job Title: Prep School Intern [there are up to 4 Intern roles per Term]

Who would this role suit?

We welcome applications from Sixth Form leavers, who are planning to take a gap year; and postgraduates who might be considering a post-university gap year or a career in teaching. Placements would ideally be for the academic year, but applications will be considered for one, two or three terms.

The Post of Intern

We are looking to recruit willing, able and highly adaptable individuals who would relish this post for up to a year. The role of an Intern will be to support teaching staff in lessons, support staff in the School Office.. It is expected that Interns will be willing to contribute to the School’s Co-curricular programme, including attendance on residential visits during term-time, if required.

Why do we use the term Intern ?

An intern is an advanced student or graduate usually in a professional field gaining supervised practical experience. We see this role as more than just filling a gap. We want to work with you to develop your skills and your experience. The St James Prep School Internships help our Interns master professional soft skills such as communication, punctuality and multi-tasking. These are skills that are key for success at a job and universities and are highly sought after by employers.

Remuneration and hours

This is a funded position and there is a sum paid per term of approximately £3000. This is a term-time position and working hours will be from 8.00am - 4.00pm, Monday to Friday, term-time only; with Co-Curricular Activities extending the day to 5.00pm, one or two days a week.

Job Description

The list of duties below goes some way towards describing a ‘day in the life of’ a Gap Teaching Assistant, but is by no means exhaustive:

Classroom Assistant

· To support pupils’ learning in the classroom

· Morning break and lunch duties/playground supervision

· To assist teaching staff in preparing teaching material for lessons

· To assist with and attend school assemblies

· To support the Head of PE and other sports staff in the setting up of lessons and coordinating warm ups

Co-curricular Activities

· Accompanying/supporting teaching staff on trips

· Overseeing Co-curricular and start/end of day registers

· Supporting teaching staff in the running of after-school club

Administrative support

 · To assist with in administrative functions in the School Office

· To assist with the production of printed material for school events, eg, sports day, concerts, school productions.
