Alumna Sophia Salloum (2016) returned to school in October to tell pupils about her career to date. Certain that the A Level route was not for her, she went to the University of West London to study a Level 2&3 Diploma in Professional Cookery, gaining valuable work experience along the way and discovering that she was actually very good at the theory side of the course too! She emphasised that having intelligence is not just about being academic, getting the highest marks or going to a top university: those who are creative and good at making things are also intelligent.
Sophia now works for Soane’s Kitchen and Alex Head, her boss, had this advice for the girls: 'Relax and enjoy the journey of working out what you want to do, take your time deciding where your passions lie. It is important that you love what you do and that you are always learning. Don’t worry if it takes you a bit of time to find the right career: you will get there and it is important you find what you really enjoy doing.'
